Just as one blogger declares black bags are so over, another (um, me!) has an epiphany and states them her new favourite thing. But that’s just it, isn’t it, style is, and should be a personal journey…
Mine is thus. I’ve never had a proper, ie. biggish, black bag in my life before and, as of this last month, now I have three. Intentionally so, I might add. I’ve been pretty one-track with bags, always going for tans, browns and naturals with a bit of a relaxed 70s feel. I’m now moving on, I want smart, structured and black to contrast with a more easy-going approach to clothes. I want the kind of bag you wear as armour, just as Cate Blanchett wears her Hermés in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine; her life unravelled and a shadow of what it was, she clings valiantly to her handbag wearing it like a shield. Ok, that’s not quite me, but you know what I mean!
The day I shot this, I bought daffodils and chocolate biscuits. It was that kind of day. A kind of dip day. I’m coming to the end of a project I’ve been working on and though the end is in sight, it almost feels further away than ever. I’ve given a lot to it and I do long for the finish, which will only be a sort-of finish as this is one of those long-term, back-breaking kind of projects. Ah, the things we are moved to do!
I love this look, even though it was kind of an afterthought outfit, I had planned something else entirely. It’s made up of some black oldies but goodies, brightened with the red tartan and polished up with the Nica satchel, kindly sent for review. It’s not leather, but looks as good as, the pattern draws your eye in and it possesses not one, but two internal compartments (the type for slipping your phone into), a roomy internal zip pocket and an external pocket too, perfect for your oyster card. Very well thought out. It comes in small and tan too, but that’s not important now, is it?
Are you a fan of black bags? Or too boring?
