Bibimbap Charlotte Street

I really haven’t tried enough Korean food, just a couple of kimchi soups in some small London diners, so I was thrilled last week to try out the modern Korean menu at Bibimbap on Charlotte Street which opened last November…

Bibimbap is the Korean national dish, a medley of rice and vegetables with meat, chicken or fish and a fried egg on top (optional!). Most Korean restaurants will serve just a couple of Bibimbap dishes but Bibimbap lists 10 on its menu. So after a few tasty starters – chilli squid, dumpling and prawn katsu – we got stuck in. A different one each – I went for mixed seafood and my husband and our friend Patrick when for two different beef versions. The dishes came steaming hot in lovely slate-coloured stone bowls. I enjoyed staring at the colours and egg on top before getting in with my noodles and really mixing it all up!

Absolutely delicious and for just £8.45 a mixed seaford bibimbap, well, this is one way not to blow your eating out budget. Especially for central London. Even with a bottle of wine, the total cost of our meal for three came in under £65. Now that’s something worth knowing. And apparently quite a few people already do! When I posted on insta, people kept commenting how they’d been to the Soho branch (just on Greek Street) and loved it. I think the Soho branch is more of a diner, you can’t book tables there, whereas at the Charlotte Street restaurant you can.

We ate and nattered and watched quite a few tables come and go. But you can really take your time over the stone bowl and I was determined to finish up every last bit. Highly recommended and I’m going back as soon as I can, to either the Soho or Charlotte Street branch. In case you’re wondering what I wore, I was mainly poncho and denim attired and yes, we did go for a cheeky drink at the Charlotte Street hotel afterwards (view from where we were sitting outside)!

    1. There’s a bigger space at the back and I *think* a downstairs. Def worth giving them a ring to check – so delish and prices are great! x
