Home Styling Tips

HouseologyBlogPostSince my DIY and house styling efforts in Portugal last month, I think I’m finally starting to refine my home style and get a better sense of how I want my house to look. So I was thrilled to be asked to curate an edit for new interiors design site Houseology (formerly Occa Home) …

What do I like? A neutral palette of ideally white floorboards and light-coloured but textured carpets would be my first step, followed by some careful choice of lighting. I really hate overhead lighting, but have made some terrible lamp choices in the past (which I’m still living with) and would like to remedy – out with the old and in with the new!

Next, I want to look at the some of the less obvious pieces that are still pivotal on tying the look of home together. Firstly, copper (my new obsession!) for kitchenware and lighting fittings and secondly, cushions and throws for the brightest colour accents and mirrors which I think can be such a lovely focal point.

And let’s not forget the baskets, I need more baskets! In Portugal, I was able to see what a lovely homey & hyggelig feel baskets can bring to a room – either as storage in the bathroom or for toys in the living room and kitchen. Can’t get enough of them.

Houseology has a lovely selection of baskets and pretty much everything else you might need for home, so I had fun choosing my favourite pieces for this edit. See my guest post over on Houseology too where I break down my house styling tips…
