Amazing how you can live in London for nearly a decade and not even touch the surface when it comes to eating out and exploring all the cafes and restaurants about. Last week I popped in the St Martin’s Lane branch of Italian casual eatery Prezzo, right by Trafalgar Square to try out the new menu… 

Even more fun, I had the lovely Lindsey from Ropes of Holland along with me. Location wise, I guess this branch will see a lot of theatre-goers come the evening, but lunchtime was buzzing with a mix of business types, family get-togethers and the odd tourist.

Although I’d initially been drawn by the news of the new gluten-free menu – hallo superfood bean and feta salad – nonetheless I found myself ordering garlic bread and hoummus to start with, which I wolfed down, forgoing the tummy-friendly benefits anything gluten-free might have to offer. I was also pretty stuffed from my carb-fest and when I couldn’t finish all my salad – eye on dessert natch – the friendly waitress offered to have it packed up to go for me. Which is actually a brilliant idea, lunch next day thankyou very much!

Being half-Italian, I tend to feel very comfortable in the environs of Italian-style food – olives were huge and delicious and Lindsey had a mushroom risotto – and the garlic bread, well, no need to return to that devour-it-now session, sorry Lindsey, I didn’t let you get a look in!

Coffees and totally indulgent chocolate pudding finished us up nicely. Just the right balance, the healthy sandwiched by the not-so-healthy and everyone’s feeling good. Great place to stop by if you’re near a chain and want some great healthy options but also yummy comfort food Italian style too.
