Postcards From Applecross

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI was absolutely blown away by Applecross on my first ever visit a couple of weeks ago. Across the water from Skye where we often visit family Applecross is famously accessible by two moutainous roads only. We took the Bealach na Ba route which takes you up Britain’s second highest road…

We arrived at sunset after taking in the peak views and zipped straight to the magical Applecross Walled Garden – landscaped but still wild gardens replete with beautiful blooms and secret corners and gates – for a wonderful birthday party with the most incredible tasting wild berry cake I’ve ever had. This I would want at my wedding (retrospectively speaking!).

We stayed in a little guest house a few minutes up the road from Applecross Bay and the next day got fish & chips and ice cream from the van outside the Applecross Inn, the busiest hive of activity I’ve ever seen. We then headed to the absolutely stunning Sands beach and whiled the day away.

The following day we moved to a wifi-free cottage and I indulgently sunned myself in the little walled garden eating snaffled left-over birthday cake reading, while Myles and Gus made the two-hour drive to visit friends in Skye. I can’t explain quite how magical the whole experience was, not least because the weather was beyond perfect, always a dangerous of heady mix up on the west coast where most of the year it’s actually pretty hard-going weather wise. I’m just gonna take our good luck on the weather front and chalk it up to one of my favourite trips ever. Plus the colours in the pictures came out just so dreamy. Hope you enjoy this rather lengthy photo album…

  1. I am not a great traveller abroad, always feeling that the British Isles have so much to offer. This looks like a perfect getaway for me. I have always fancied exploring Scotland’s west coast. And that cake is truly amazing!
Thank you for sharing more wonderful photographs and helping me to feel that I was there (almost). x

    1. So glad you enjoyed them! Really one of my most memorable trips 🙂
