Weekend Edit | Spring Flutters

I’m going to try and avoid all the ‘spring has sprung’ cliches, but I’m feeling the good vibes and looking towards sun-filled months and surrounding myself with spring-like things that make me smile…

Last week the lovely team at Trouva asked me to join their trends 2017 panel to speak to their collective of boutique owners, along with The Pool’s deputy editor Lucy Dunn and Winchester store The Hambledon’s founder Victoria Hambleton. What came across very quickly from all of us in different ways was the notion that cut and dried trends are becoming less relevant and, certainly for me, pretty much my whole approach to lifestyle and wardrobe is about finding the styles that will endure.

STRAW BAGS FOREVER

Hence my continuing obsession with straw bags. It’s not really an obsession as such, as in I don’t think I’ll see an end to it. They are great, they are beautiful, they are in my life. Period. So they will keep appearing in various forms – this latest raffia tote by Soeur Paris which I found in the brilliant Aime London in Shoreditch. I collect straw bags the way some collect Gucci 😉 and probably my wallet is much better off for it!

LOOK AT THE STITCHING!

Also by Soeur, because damn, the French do this well (equally obsessed with Sezane right now; their spring collection just dropped and is divine!) is this sweet stitched cheese cloth white top. I mean with blue denim, seriously, how could you not… This had just arrived in store at Aime London when I popped a few weeks ago, I can’t find online, but take a look at the rest of their gorgeous tops on the Soeur website and here at Smallable!

FILIPPA K ATHELEISURE WEAR

Swinging from the brilliance of the French to Swedish, I’ve long been a fan of Filippa K and have been using one of their running jackets for months now. They’ve recently released some new sports gear, you can see the little sports bra top in the pictures here and the loose top (so light!) and leggings on Instagram here. So many gorgeous pieces in their regular range too!

COPPER CANDLE & DR HAUSCHKA CULT PRODUCTS

I think the candle you know, I’ve featured it already. A sought-after Aussie brand, SOH Melbourne, that is now available here in Selfridges – smells divine, that’s a given! – but it’s the copper casing that takes this candles to the next level. Regal even! And of course, you know well by now my devotion to high end organic products, Dr Hauschka being one of my faves for their hero products, the night serum and rose day cream, both of which I cannot live without. The third product I have here is the hydrating cream mask which everyone raves about, so cannot wait to give a go in my next bathtime!

LUCKY BOY BY SHANTHI SEKARAN

Although a total Kindle addict I do still read real books! I don’t think you have to choose between the two. Let’s face it the Kindle is brilliant for trips away and reading at night with the light off… My most recent paperback book read is Lucky Boy by Shanthi Sekaran. A heart-breaking but full of strength and hope novel about a young Mexican girl who crosses the border into the US as an illegal immigrant and a young American couple who are desperate for their own child. There were moments so hard-going that I had to speed-read to surface experience the depths of pain and despair undergone by our heroine Soli and take time to tease out the complicated emotions of a woman so desperate to have a child of her own she stops seeing right and wrong. Fantastic read, I highly recommend it!
