Fashion Revolution Week | Gather & See

Fashion Revolution Week will be with us come the 24th April. Reminding us to think how and where our clothes are made and consider what we, as consumers, can do to reduce the impact our purchases make…

Often it’s as simple as not really knowing where to find clothes that are ethically and sustainably made. I first came across Gather & See just over a year ago and was interested by their ethos and the brands they were stocking, quite a few of which I already knew – east London’s RIYKA, Ally Bee, Danielle Foster, Beaumont Organic and Matt & Nat. This outfit is made up of brilliant fit MUD cropped Mimi jeans made from recycled jeans in Tunisia, a 100% certified organic cotton knit from New Zealand’s Kowtow and backpack and slides in eco-friendly imitation leather from Matt&Nat. Loving the look and feel of all these pieces and there’s definitely an extra special something knowing exactly how they’ve been made. Buy less, but better is something we should all aim for as well as being better informed…
Gather & See have a new, really informative and useful guide to buying clothes ethically, go take a peek: Style & Substance Guide – 5 Steps To a More Sustainable Wardrobe. It helps you understand how you can get your head around how and where a brand’s clothes are being made (although frustratingly often it seems they don’t know themselves! Worth watching Channel 4’s recent Dispatches episode which revealed big brands like River Island, New Look, Boohoo and Misguided paying less than minimum wage to UK factory workers. Sadly claiming ignorance of how their sub-contractors were working, hopefully the show has prompted awareness and a change in practice.) Overall, hopefully things are moving forward! Let’s do our bit by incorporating considered and cared for pieces into our lives.
