Style Up Like a Grown Up

Nothing quite says sophisticated lady like good leather. Take a basic pair of skinnies and relaxed shirt then add considered leather accessories to take things to the next level…

I have fallen hard for this sweet little Howe bag in graphite by independent British designer M. Hulot. I first spied this brand on the ever-chic and ahead of the game Girl in Menswear. Founder and designer Anna Kreeger has created a very cool, individualistic brand with what she describes as a lo-fi, utilitarian approach and a commitment to purity of design and attention to execution and finish. Holding the Howe bag (not that far from where it was made in Hackney – all the M. Hulot pieces are made in London and Istanbul!) for the first time confirmed all my suspicions – excellent quality, excellently made, something to love for life.

I chose grey to break away from my dependance on black and brown bags and I get a thrill every time I look at it. Also perfect for the autumn; I’m quietly stockpiling grey pieces as I’m convinced it’s this season’s staple colour. Plus this bag is not a killer price-wise (£170) and I already have it on my list for Christmas prezzies for members of my family who like that kind of thing! It’s also extremely liberating to just go out with phone, keys and wallet; something I want to do more of, instead of carting round my usual home office and toddler support system…

I styled like a grown up and teamed SOS Jeans skinnies* and a Club Monaco shirt with Hobbs boots*, M Hulot bag* and a Shore Projects watch*

The boots by Hobbs are also a bit of a plunge into the unknown for me as they’re my first pair of lace-up boots and I adore how Jane Austen they are. I think the colour and style looks incredible with denim and definitely adds an air of living life in a proper and elegant way! Or is it just me living in that dreamworld?

Anyhoo, I had an incredible time last night at the LK Bennett Little Black Dress dinner and can’t wait to show you all the official photos – so nice to have a photographer taking care of that side of things! Getting to see the new collection of black dresses really opened my eyes to the quality and style  of the brand – I ended up really loving my dress, and check this gorgeous one on Lucy (extra proud because I snapped the pic, haha!). We all ooh-ed and ahh-ed over each other’s shoes and generally had a very nice time! But more on that next week…

Next post from somewhere warm and sunny! I’m off to pack, so stay tuuuuned.
