Boy Girl

Uniqlo2Ideas I’ve been toying with recently include the issue that if you dress quite boyish, e.g. baggy jeans and loose tops it helps to soften your look with a not-so-harsh hair do, hence my daily mess of a topknot…

It’s that thing about fashion where opposites attract. A heel with baggy jeans, a blazer with shapeless top, a posh handbag with a casual look. Start looking and you will see the best style is always mixing up converses (opposites I mean, not the shoe, but hey, you can’t go wrong these days with ol’ Chucks) – for example, ripped denim and a killer heel being an all time winner. And now that the skinny heyday is well and truly over it gets easier to work your contrasts – pretty tops with slouchy jeans if you like.

But just back to hair for a minute. Sorry. I’ve been wanting to cut my hair short again for a while now save for the memory that I used to dress a lot more girly when I did have boyshort hair, to balance it out. And now, as I get more comfortable and confident with my style, I’m reluctant to have to swap back in for the more feminine…

And I’m very, very attached to my boyfriends and girlfriends (the neater boyfriend, if you will). For the slouchier styles I like them to sit on your hips – just like these ones by Uniqlo; their denim is so good right now and love this floaty top too! – with a deconstructed top that billows in the wind and square heel that, let’s face it, is more comfy boot than heel. The only way I’m playing with this look, tbh, is the structured handbag, harking back to a more formal era, less bohemian and for once I like it, given that most of my bags are of the more boho/bucket variety.

Anyway, this look is my deconstructed smart for those days when I might need to zip into town and, you know, have a meeting or two but still be able to swing by nursery and pick up the little one and manage a half-hour walk with buggy and/or scooter. A little bit boyish, a little bit girlish, forever mixing it up…

You know a whole lot its almost tough to argue with you (not that I personally will need
to…HaHa). You definitely put a fresh spin on a topic which has been written about for
many years. Excellent stuff, just wonderful!
