New Hair, New Rips

Hair1The light was going as when we snapped these pics, so apologies! And a rare cooperative few seconds from my husband on our way out, so the most perfunctory of pictures. But really I just wanted to show you…

My new hair look. As much because I’m a sharer as to commit it to the digital archives, so I don’t give up on it by next week (as is my wont, as is my addiction to wearing my hair in a bun.) It’s taken a few attempts to get to this situation. A lobb I’m told – thankyou @mooonskye! I’ve managed hair down before, but that’s been an hour-at-the-hairdresser super tonged up which was always going to be unrealistic for me (I’ve popped the post on that in the Read More below). I need something I can wash, let dry, maybe blow-dry quickly and run a little product through. Not a tong in sight.

So last week, I went for a couple of inches off which I realised was much more manageable, but I still wasn’t that into it. You can see the pear shape of it here. Too much weight at the bottom, right? Making it look quite prim. And then, as if it was meant to be, a pal and his hairdresser girlfriend came to stay the very next day and she took one look and said she could help me. It was about re-shaping and putting the step somewhere else (sorry, not exactly sure what that means). But she seemed confident she could improve it and I was willing to try as I knew I wasn’t going to be wearing my hair down much as it was.

And so here you have it. I’ve managed to do three days straight with my hair down now, which is unheard of, and I’m loving it. It feels more grown-up somehow. And looks a bit edgier than the cut before, whaddya think? Wish me luck going forward! It’s a nice change and I want to keep it up.

So, the rips. Loving this pair of jeans from the just about to launch AW15 collection from fab new denim and basics brand Uncivilised – remember when I visited their studio a few months ago? They sit so well on the waist, pockets have been carefully positioned for the best bum look, there’s a touch of stretch but hardly any so feels much more like straight denim and the double slit rips are just perfect. Uncivilised are all awesome stripes, touch of the 90s, classic effortless pieces at totally affordable price points. The girls behind the brand, Frances and Lisa, are utterly committed to their vision of wear anytime, effortless style and I for one cannot wait for the collection to go live! Will let you know as soon as it does… in the meantime keep up with the girls on their Instagram.

  1. I think it’s lovely. It’s amazing how just cutting a few inches off the length can affect the look and feel of a cut. I have layers in mine to stop me looking too pristine and prim so I know where you’re coming from. And I also used to have it quite long but when I’ve looked back at pictures, I now realise it was dragging me down a little. It makes a difference if you’re not tall. And lucky you having good hairdresser friends!
