Sticker Stuff

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIf you like a bit of pop art in your fashion – part of me can’t resist the kitsch 80s fun of sticker and patching culture! – this is how to do it…

You need solid, time-approved classics to make this work. A black leather jacketblue denim and serious shoes (these platform loafers by Grenson are my new loves) to counteract the overall silliness of adults reverting to their teenage selves and playing around with stickers. Nothing wrong with it at all really – fashion really should be fun above all else, although I never could quite stomach the Anya Hindmarch Counter Culture bags, could you? Sorry Tony the Tiger, just not the kind of thing to throw serious money on, let’s be honest.

But there’s the perfect in between, good quality fun by brands like Skinny Dip who produce playtime fashion that doesn’t feel schonky – I couldn’t quite believe how good it felt to start peeling and sticking onto the crossbody-doubles-as-a-clutch bag. For a little fun distraction apropos of nothing much in the middle of the day, officer, I liked it! And the stickers, puffy and matt to feel, look damn good! This from someone who in bygone days was fiercely proud of her sticker collection (3 albums, each allocated to different kinds of stickers!) and these days takes vicarious pleasure in sticker time with her toddler! Btw, the Jupiter one is my fave…
