Introducing… Lana Siberie

Lana Siberie SS13Where to start with Iulia Filipovscaia? Born in Siberia, a Fine Arts graduate from Central Saint Martins and the founder of Lana Sibierie

A practising artist (see her work here), Iulia founded her own fashion brand Lana Siberie in 2010 creating handmade and one-off pieces inspired by the Soviet craft of babushka knitting and her mother’s own knitting skills (Lana is short for her mother’s name Svetlana).

I couldn’t take my eyes off the pastel-hued crocheted dress above from the SS13 collection titled The Rise of The Victorians in the Age of the New Aesthetic – a capsule crochet collection of 12 handmade pieces. Combining her interest in Victorian fashion and an obsession with the aesthetics of reptile scales and colours, the collection and its branding have a powerful impact. Just take a look at the lookbook cover, more like an artwork than a cover, and the images below. Flicking through the lookbook online I felt like I had been sucked into another world, one both visually stimulating and unsettling.

For her enchanting and equally captivating AW13 collection, check out the video below. See more at lanasibierie.com and keep up with the latest on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook.
