A Trip To The Tate, Bubbles & Clowns

This week, we did one of those rare things that Londoners do and actually took advantage of one of the many wonders of the city with a trip to the Tate Modern

Sadly, we were a week too late for the Lichenstein so, instead, took a free stroll around Poetry & Dream, full of surrealist artists like Man Ray and Joan Miró. My favourite piece was this Portrait of a Young Woman by Meredith Frampton. Being such a sunny day though, we were soon drawn back outside to sit and eat hamburgers on the grass and enjoy the clown making huge bubbles and attracting quite a crowd. After some friends glided in on Boris bikes (£2 for 24 hours, did you know?) we set off for a wander over the bridge and found ourselves down by St Paul’s cathedral heading to an old work haunt of mine, Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese (by way of a quite extraordinary sweet shop). Serving pints since 1667 (some of the pub dates from a 13th century monastery) inside was cool and dark and we refuelled on fish and chips and stout (well, orange juice for me, not one for the beer these days). Heading home, we made sure to pay tribute to the nearby statue of Hodge (our cat’s namesake) who belonged to Samuel Johnson, he of the Dictionary of English Language. And suffice to say I fell back in love with my lovely little Leica X1 – now that I’ve got the hang of the slow autofocus I was able to snap some action pics, well, of bubbles at least! Anyway, here are the snaps – hope you like them!

ps. My husband (pictured below with our lovely little boy Gus) has requested that I note his hat is Kangol and ‘model’s own’. This has really tickled his fancy, I’m not entirely sure why. 😉 I think this style is called the British Spey (sorry, couldn’t find a UK link). For completeness, Gus’s baby hat is by Petit Bateau.
