DIY Tutorial – Homemade Soap

DIY Tutorial - Homemade Soap

Nothing beats a lovely little kit full of all the bits and pieces you need to get into a little DIY home project. In this case a soap-making kit by Baldwins I was kindly sent to review…

The kit contained a big block of organic base soap, essential oils, dried lavender and rose petals and a silicone mould. It really couldn’t be easier. With the help of my lovely friend Charlie, we sliced the block into quarters (150g per soap, the whole block was 1kg) and started melting them slowly. Once a clearish liquid, we splashed in random quantities of the different oils and dried petals and lavender.

The mixture was best when it was still quite hot as it started to cool and harden quite quickly. We probably should have done once batch at a time, rather than altogether as we ended up reheating some of the pans and finding the end result was a little lumpy. However, once in the mould the mix of colours looked lovely. I left them overnight to set at room temperature as they needed a full 24 hours. I’m loving how they turned out and think they’d make lovely gifts! Stylonylon soap brand, here we come!
