Thinking About Rotary Watches

Thinking About Rotary Watches | UK fashion blog | Stylonyon

So strange how we all used to wear watches because we needed something to tell the time, but now, telling time made redundant by our mobiles, they’re creeping back in as fashion accessories…

I haven’t yet bitten the bullet on this one but I’ve been thinking about watches a lot lately. In particular, mens round-faced ones of which the still family-run Swiss brand Rotary has quite a selection. Established in 1895, Rotary became supplier to the British army in 1940 and with the UK as its most successful market now has its head office here too.

I really love the plainer styles and think they’d look just perfect poking out from under a chunky knit or white shirt. They just add an authoritative crispness to an outfit, like you’re someone with a purpose – people to see, places to go! They’re a great way to give menswear as womenswear a discreet nod as well, but contrasting with a more girly outfit works well too.

And my final thought is that a watch is the perfect occasion present. Everybody remembers the watch their parents bought them to mark an important birthday or event like graduation. And it’s the kind of thing that you’ll keep down the years and be able to look back on fondly. Are you thinking about giving anyone a watch this Christmas?

Rotary watches pictured above all available from H. Samuel.
