As you probably already know, I’m a huge fan of my local neighbourhood Clapton and the last several months have been super exciting with lots of new cafés and shops opening up. The latest is the amazing Bad Denim boutique on Lower Clapton Road…
Opened by one Erin McQueen, a die-hard denim fanatic – she’s worked for 10 years in the denim business; currently in denim development at Victoria Beckham and recently in production at MiH Jeans (read more in this Vogue online interview). Suffice to say, Erin stocks some of my favourite brands MiH, Paige and Frame among others, as well as vintage in the little back room and is a huge fan of Clapton too – read why here.
Check out Erinn’s brilliant washing instructions, which cover washing – as in don’t wash them, just stick them in the freezer to kill germs, love this! – shrinking, losing and keeping colour. She also offers a tailoring service for shortening and shares the top tip of asking a tailor to re-attach the original hem to keep the right look. Plus if you’re preggers and buy a pair of jeans, she’ll turn them into maternity jeans for free. General amazing-ness. Erin’s personality comes through in all the little interior design quirks – check the cool pink flamingo, vintage NOVA mag and wooden lettering – and the space truly is a glorious slice of denim heaven.
I immediately fell upon an amazing new style by MiH and was thrilled to hear that recently launched British brand Bethnals (a Kickstarter crowd-funding success story!) will be stocked there soon too; I was introduced to Bethnals and founder Melissa Clements at Abi Marvel’s fab blogger haven The Apartment over LFW by way of a personalised pair of incredibly cool one-pocketed boyfriends, which I cannot wait to arrive – so pics coming soon! Erin said she’d already had quite a few calls from customers asking if she’d be stocking them too, so get in there as the buzz is happening!
