If I haven’t put Greece on your bucket list yet, I must be doing something wrong… 😉 It’s quite strange to me to have discovered such a beautiful part of the world so late in life – my parents travelled for work and thus travelling and seeing new countries was part and parcel of growing up…
But for some reason Greece was inadvertently side-stepped. Now when I meet people who tell me they holiday in Greece every year I no longer give them a slightly quizzical glance. I totally get it. There is so much and always so much more. Each trip I have taken to date – with two island trips this month – has only opened the door to the prospect of more; more beautiful beach coves with the bluest water, more magical ruins in unkempt fields of wildflowers, more moments of being struck by the stillness and bizarre feeling of hotlining it back down the corridors of history, more of the unexpected pretty in unexpected places and always the most delicious food at every stop.
This final post on my and Arianna’s visit to Samos sees us pottering around the picturesque island capital of Vathy – with cool cafes and the prettiest winding streets – and on a day long boat trip around the Aegean sailing across glittering waters and pulling into uninhabited islands, heading for the prettiest beaches and tucking into freshly fish barbecued on the spot…
The little cafe Ettikaipo (Επίκαιρο in Greek!) we stopped at in Vathy was just around the corner from the main square down a side street and the picnic tour by Samos Travel Services set off from Pythagorios port and took us to the small island of Samiopoula on the southern coast and onto the white pebbled Klima beach for a bit of sunning and lunch…
