I’ll never forget interviewing Alexa Chung back in my journalist days, backstage at the Elle Style Awards, an allotted 10 minutes or less, and her saying ‘You’re one of the nice ones…!”…
Which made me think that hard-nosed celebrity interviewing was probably not for me, ha! Although I did pack away quite a few over the years for one publication and another – Elle McPhearson, Pet Shop Boys, Katie Melua, Gemma Arterton among others – which was a learning curve indeed!
My only other brush with Alexa came when I snapped a photo of her and Kendall Jenner front row one year at Topshop Unique and the picture went viral… fun and quite surreal! Made all the more so by the fact that I had actually got the shot by crouching low (advantages of being small!) avoiding all the other (pushy!) photographers elbows, and mine was the shot that won out – getting regram after regram after Topshop and Alexa posted it!
But more importantly it’s been fantastic watching Alexa’s ascent in the world of fashion which she has dominated so well with her elegant and intelligent execution, successfully converting that into laudable collaborations and her own womenswear line.
This September not only saw her London Fashion Week catwalk debut but also her second collaboration with Superga, which is such a good fit. The sell-out white plimsolls have had an update with hiking boot eyelets and the Alpina pair I’m wearing in these pics are testament to our current obsession with chunky soles topped off with chunky laces…
For the rest of the outfit, I’m wearing some my September most comfortable faves – the autumn hit camel coat from John Lewis & Partners (stay tuned for more from their brilliant new re-brand & collection), a pair of wide-legged jeans from M&S and this brilliantly fitting polka-dotted shirt. Also by M&S is the beret, which has just restocked btw – it’s nice and thick so keeps a good shape!
My obsession with affordable luxe minimal bags continues – this is a new brand that caught my eye; the beautifully statement criss-cross cage silhouette, both bucket and basket, with a canvas pouch insert by Trademark (a brand created by the step-daughters of Tory Burch interestingly!).
I’ve been getting a lot of comments on my tinted shades recently – lol, I feel so Al Pacino in them! The frames are by Danish brand Lindberg (sorry, I can’t find the exact frames online) and the prescription lenses that tint grey are by Transitions, so they darken and lighten according to the light, which is a godsend for when I’m not wearing my lenses, which is less and less these days..
And finally, the exquisite hand-made pearl earrings are from a new London jewellery brand Alkymi where you’ll find the prettiest things! For this style, one loop, not two, you will need to ask them, but they will make to order!
