It’s possible that I get overly attached to, and overly invested in jewellery! At the moment wearing my Compass every day gives me a well of strength to draw from…
Mixed in with other carefully considered pieces – they each have their own special meaning for me! I’ve always been like this with jewellery. Wearing pieces day in, day out investing them with almost a part of me, connecting to the inner me.
Of course that makes losing pieces extra traumatic – still to this day I mourn losing a gold ring decorated with elephants (it was quite wide!) on the tube. I felt it slip of my finger as I alighted into a carriage. So distraught I even went back to Farringdon station, knowing though that it had probably hit the tracks. Another – a vintage chain ring – I lost at a family picnic in the long grass, now very much sunk into the soil. I do think about going there with a metal detector and seeing if I can find it…!
But these stories of loss are just as importantly woven into the trail of our lives and Compass was very much about embodying our own journeys – particularly at those times when you need something extra to hold on to, to get you through.
Cast in London from recycled grain, hand-finished by Bianca whose attention to detail is something quite impressive to behold, the little stones adding a special pointer to where you are right now and what you need – find yourself (pearl), know yourself (lapiz), love yourself (garnet). We need each of these at different times in our lives.
We shot these pictures on a little autumn trip to Paris, I love how Compass has become about finding youe way and travelling to the places that make you happiest (in this world and in your mind!)…
Over on Instagram, we are running a little giveaway: comment with where you are happiest on my Instagram to be in with a chance of winning. There are three necklaces to given away – and you can choose your size, metal and stone (or not stone!) and an engraving if you want one!
