Don’t Forget The Neutral Utility Jumpsuit!

I’m getting very excited about spring prints and dresses, don’t get me wrong I’m still all about them rn – see last week’s edit; the green floral skirt went down a treat! – but just this week I fell back in love with utility jumpsuit!

Always bringing a good level of confident chic, I’m still often surprised at how wonderfully extra a jumpsuit can be – such easy-to-don wizardy! We’re not quite at the floral one-piece stage yet (roll on height-of-summer lightweight jersey jumpsuits in flowery patterns for this!) so this is where neutrals combined with utility design come in…

M&S jumpsuit | Genevieve Sweeney jumper | H&M hat | Cos sandals | Hereu bag

I was just bowled over by this beige jumpsuit from M&S when I first saw it – please note, it is a cropped style, so will be shorter on the leg for you if taller than five foot two! Or to put it another way, this one is great for shorties! It’s a linen mix, but didn’t present as too crumply after taking it on and off a few times.

Now I wouldn’t wear a jumper over this jumpsuit as you’d lose all the impact, but to tie the arms like a scarf around your neck (or something more complicated like the stylists over at Arket achieve so elegantly!) then my beautiful new Maud jumper from Genevieve Sweeney (which I am reaching for most days now to wear with jeans) is just the thing. GS jumpers don’t come cheap but boy do they work out in terms of cost per wear and longevity. I have two GS jumpers, still going strong after four years now, with no sign of abating in terms of quality or style. A very worthwhile investment.

The COS sandals have come out in white for the Spring ’20, the black having sold out last year and a recent restock that went on sale vanished in a matter of minutes. Very much regretting not hitting ‘add to basket’ when I first saw them earlier this week. But I’m thinking that we could all be doing with mixing up our big, black chunky sandals with something different. There are a couple of burgundy sizes left too from the sale stock, btw.

Always keeping my eye on what’s new from Spanish handbag brand Hereu – and I’ve loving this fresh tote shape, which comes in this larger canvas size and in a neater sized leather style. Really cannot decided which I love more!

Weekday jumpsuit | H&M blazer | Mango bag | Topshop shoes | Bear Brooksbank vintage earrings

Instead of a jumper tied round your neck as an extra layer, I thought this beige blazer would do quite nicely  (I have in fact just bought this one as the cappuccino shade paired with blue denim & pair of sandals is getting me very excited!) layered over Weekday’s take on the utility jumpsuit.

Trying very hard to veer away from the big, black and chunky on the shoe front and not being great with heels, I thought these pretty little woven practically flat sandals would be a very cute choice. The bag is from Mango – they have some great plain baskets too; love how nice & understated this one is (would happily take this over the Loewe, as so Jane Birken ;)).

And now that my hair is getting a bit longer, I reckon I could pull of some nice hoops without looking too much like a pirate! Anything vintage from Bear Brooksbank is a win – her taste is exquisite.

Arket jumpsuit | Topshop shirt | H&M bag | Topshop shoes | Daphine bangle

Arket have a really nice selection of jumpsuits in right now (here’s a pink one for the colour-lovers among you). Another layering option is a shirt – could be more of the ‘shacket’ style (a la this Topshop one; slowly giving into ‘shacket’!) or something light and floaty for contrast – I love green inserted into a palette of neutrals, and with an animal print all the better.

So of course, a girly kitten heel pretty much fills me with dread – but they just look so good with with an outfit like this! And the reason I’ve included this pair is because they are labelled wide fit. Which got my attention because I have a wider foot – and I think this is why fragile little heels has never really been my thing – but I’m willing to be proven wrong; and I really cannot argue with the styling excellent of pairing such elegant little shoes with an androgynous piece like the utility jumpsuit!

Absolutely love this straw & woven little shopper bag – so cute with its patterning and handle. And come the summer, I always feel an outfit can very much do with a statement bangle, and this beautifully shaped Daphine one fits the bill perfectly!
