Last night, I just couldn’t stop myself from having yet another browse of brand new organic and natural beauty site A Beautiful World.
It’s what I’ve been waiting for – organic and natural products in drool-worthy packaging that actually work and are available online! When I met founder Liz McCarthy for a coffee in a lovely little Soho cafe earlier this month, this was the one thing she really drove home to me – that her hand-picked products (sourced internationally, including the US) really get results. To be honest, she had me at hello – or rather, the minute I clapped eyes on her beautifully designed site. But I’m a sucker for a clean and sleek webpage with amazing product shots.
A former advertising whizz kid who worked for Unilever, Procter & Gamble as well as heading up her own company, Liz had stripped her own beauty routine of harmful chemicals with great results and realised there was a gap in the market for highend natural and organic products. “My aim was to create a My-Wardrobe for beauty…” Liz said in a recent interview with The Sunday Times Style magazine. Having launched with a handful of brands, Liz will be adding two to three new brands per month.
So, the products! I was thrilled to be given a very generous selection to try out and let me tell you now, they are incredible. And just when I’d convinced myself I could make do with super cheap natural range Laidbare. Sigh, that’s all out the window now!
I’ve been using the Dahliana Overnight Fruit Lift Crème for more than a week now, and its dry skin sloughing fruit acids and collagen boosting Co-Enzyme Q10 are leaving my skin fresher, brighter and dare I say it, younger looking each day. Ok, I have been supplementing on alternate nights with the divine smelling S.W. Basics Shea Butter Cream (just three ingredients – shea butter, olive oil and coconut oil) so maybe I’ve been tampering, but frankly I just want to bathe my face in both of these as often and for as long as possible! As tipped by Liz, I’ve also been using the shea butter whipped blend on my legs after shaving and on dry areas like my elbows. I think this is my favourite of the lot. Super rich but non-clogging, it has become an integral part of my dressing table – just looking at its soft creaminess elicits happy sighs – and is also a Grazia magazine favourite.
The other two products are not ones I’d normally go for – I am nearing neglectful of my hair, piling with it dry shampoo and hairspray and never using conditioner (although I am trying to change things what with my recent hair tutorial!) so I eyed the Yarok Feed Your Youth Hair Oil suspiciously to begin with. You apply a few droppers to your roots for 10 minutes before shampooing so it can break down products and nourish your hair – it did leave my fringe feeling very soft and clean, I must say. The gorgeous Marble & Milkweed oil is a body oil but I get through oil so quickly with my dehydrated skin that I’ve been saving this deliciousness for a nightly massage of my c-section scar, something I’ve just started doing again. I go to sleep and wake up to the fragrant notes of rose and sandalwood.
Conclusion: These are all fabulous products but it was the creams that really won me over. The Dahliana is the priciest at £56 per pot – in an ideal world (ie. one where money was no object!) I’d use the night, day and eye cream – but the SW Basics Shea Butter wins out for me. On top of being an amazing experience to use, it feels really good value at £26 a jar, as a little goes such a long way. Plus being multi-purpose it would make a lovely gift.
If any of these products take your fancy, Stylonylon readers can get a 10% discount with the code STYLE10, valid until 30th June (this code can’t be used in conjunction with any others) – enjoy!
