Having decided to forgo any shows this London Fashion Week (mainly childcare reasons!), I did allocate one day for shooting street style…
I only started shooting last fashion week and it’s such a buzz! Although the Somerset House vibe seemed to be overall a lot more low-key than February – no real peacocks on display, did the Suzy Menkes article scare them all away? – it was actually really nice flitting around with my camera, asking people to pose or poaching candids. Most rewarding was silently asking if I could take a photo from afar and getting a lovely nod and smile in return. My main objective was to shoot some photos for my next UK Guest Blogger post for Free People, and as soon as that’s up next week I’ll point you in the right direction and post some highlights here.
After bumping into some blogger pals and taking loads of photos, I headed over to the Glam UK blogger suite for a cuppa (it’s got really cold here!) and catch up with the team. I left with an excellent goodie bag and pair of two-tone Osiris frames, which you’ll be seeing on here too.
So, trends? The main one was wide-brimmed, floppy and fedora hats. Lots of them on some very pretty ladies. Bright blue denim and black leather jackets were out in force. Embellished necklaces and lots of head gear – bows, turbans, headbands. Only one neon beanie, on Kavita from She Wears Fashion and one snapback. A few faux furs, you know, that boho look and some great (fierce is the word, I guess) heels. I’d say overall people were going for comfy classic looks rather than anything really outlandish. The other main trend was black, all black outfits. But maybe that’s just a fashion world staple look. Micro-trends on display were mirrored sunglasses, and very shiny shoes!
Regarding my camera, as I had to use my 50mm on my old Canon body instead of my 35mm Leica X1 (which I broke, which is so perfect for street style) I had to back away quite far to get full body outfit shots. I apologise to all the people I bumped into! What have you been up to this LFW?

Your pictures are so pretty. I wish I could take photos that look half as good as yours. I also wish I lived near some place that had a fashion week.

Thankyou! Still learning on the camera front but I love it! Yes, fashion weeks are such a pull for a city!
Yes this girl is amazing – I love chunky platform shoes and leather jackets <3 Swooon. You are so lucky for going to this! I would love to. Great post, inspired me to get a new hat 🙂
