For Big & Little | Didriksons Rainwear

Outdoorsy posts coming at you thick and fast. This Didriksons rainwear arrived at just the right time – rainy days have become the norm this autumn…

I was introduced to this fantastic Swedish brand earlier this year and was really impressed by the design, quality and lovely backstory. Set up in 1913 by a former fisherman and his wife in Grundsund, Didriksons has an excellent range of outerwear for all types of weather and this raincoat is just the thing for walks in the park with the little one. This is the first time I’ve really included Gus in an outfit post, so excuse the numerous photos! It’s so much easier to photograph somebody else, and especially fun when they’re just learning to walk. No mean feat, though, getting shots of us both together.

Gus’s outfit is the Waterman’s Kids Set and like all his clothes I sized up to give it a longer life, but he didn’t seem to mind the extra swathes of material. He was more concerned with getting used to his Polarn O Pyret wellies (I’ve had my eye on this pair for ages, another great Swedish brand). I absolutely adore the Didriksons waders and the material is nice and thick; extremely protective in nasty weather (I also road-tested these up in Skye where the weather was pretty grim last week). With enough layers beneath, I can see us using the Watermans right through the winter. My coat is the Thelma  and one of those coats people who like confronting the elements on a regular basis would definitely have. Very sophisticated zip mechanism too and great inner lining and pockets.

Didriksons is stocked in a few shops in the UK, you can find them at Nordic Outdoors, Viking Kids and Nancy Blacks. I have to admit I’ve been pretty one-track with buying outerwear for Gus, the majority it comes from Polarn O Pyret (there’s a roaring good quality eBay trade!), but I’ve been trying to get a little designer inspiration from Armani baby boys clothes and the like, although realistically I’m not sure I could go down that road, it’s heartbreaking enough when favourite outfits get outgrown, let alone favourite and costly ones! I think I’d rather go for more functional but classic pieces which will endure and be perfect for passing on.

I’m wearing Didrikson’s Thelma Women’s coat *, Karma grandad cardigan*, Wallis petite jeans* (in grey here) and Converse trainers. Gus is wearing Didrikson’s Waterman’s Kids Set* and Polarn O Pyret wellies.
