How To | Festive Hair Tutorial

How To | Festive Hair Tutorial | UK fashion blog | Stylonylon

As you know, I’m a one-trick pony when it comes to hair (this blog’s name should be Girl With The Bun!) but seeing as it’s Christmas I’d thought I’d push the boat out and come up with something a little more exciting…

I hate my hair down, and I need a bit of height around my forehead so I thought I’d try this hybrid look – no idea what you’d call it, I literally made it up (I think!) – a mix of French braid, bun and straightened hair. Cunning, right? So, equipment. First up, I was kindly sent these fabby ghd Limited Edition Wonderland stylers which you can also curl with (this I need to get the hang of!). Donut from H&M, kirby grips, Elnet heat styling spray, Elnet hairsprayΒ and this wonderful Label M Sea Salt spray.

First of all, I sectioned off the front for a loose French braid to my crown. I used to be really good at these when I was little and just about still have the hang of it. You just pull an extra strand of hair in each time. I secured it with an elastic band and kirby. I had to re-do this to make sure it didn’t fall out,

Next up, I did the bun with the donut. I always find this quite fiddly as my hair is so many different lengths. I tidied, secured it with an elastic band and kirby grips and used the sea salt spray. I sprayed on a bit of Elnet styling spray before plugging in the stylers to heat. They were ready ridiculously quickly. I tried out a few curls, but needless to say, I didn’t wait long enough. It did give a nice wavy effect, but I decided straight and sleek would work better. I didn’t bother to section off properly and just ironed through different bits until it was looking good! What do you think? How are you styling your hair for the festive season? Certainly a good way to spend a rainy day. I had planned to go down to Broadway Market for some photos but it was just too grim – will head back tomorrow though, as it’s for my first post as a contributor to Free People’s Blog 25, super excited!

I could barely focus on your tutorial because I was too busy staring at your beautiful blazer!…After a couple of minutes I was able to refocus and check out the hybrid bun! I really like it! I must try it! I have been meaning to get one of those bun makers :).
