As you may know, (if you follow me on Instagram!) last week I jetted over to Stockholm with Olympus and fabulous bloggers Laetitia (Mademoiselle Robot) and Olivia (What Olivia Did) for the Attitude fashion event…
The super-early morning flight from London found us at the quite impressive Scandic Victoria Tower just 15 minutes outside of Stockholm right next door to the exhibition centre. In store for us was a day of testing out some Olympus cameras and enjoying the event. What we didn’t know was that there would be a model laid on for us (the lovely art student Agnes) to style up for Olympus photographer-in-chief Damian McGillicuddy to shoot. (Interesting factoid – Damian took over the role from David Bailey three years ago.)
Working from Agnes’s beautiful 60s and slightly alien-looking face, we chose a floaty Säby kaftan in white and paired with white pool slides by Jennie-Ellen to achieve a retro view of a sci-fi/futuristic look – I couldn’t help but think of The Force by French 70s band The Droids, one of the coolest tracks ever! We asked the make-up artist to go heavy on the brows and silver on the eyes, leaving a nude lip (though I kind of followed the lead of Laetitia and Liv on this, make-up not really being my thing!). As you can imagine, the pre-shoot faffing around while Agnes was in make-up was perfect for a bit of photo-taking… I was using my Olympus Stylus 1 and the new OMD 10 with an incredible 45mm lens.

As it turned out, after Damian and his assistant Matt (his eldest son) had set up the lighting beautifully, they had to rush off, so Laetitia took the reins with the the OMD EM1 and shot Agnes just perfectly. I must admit, I was a bit too nervous to try and shoot myself…!

Next up, we rushed Agnes over to the theatre for Damian’s workshop on lighting techniques. I think I’ve already mentioned what clever things he did with just three Speedlites on stands, and given you can pick these up for £25 on eBay, this is something I am definitely going to try out and show you on the blog. Imagine, banish rainy days with your own indoor lighting set-up for outfit posts…!
Damian and son Matt shooting Agnes – see the two Speedlites on stands? There’s another to the right.
And finally, we managed to squeeze in a Toni & Guy fashion show where the models had their hair re-worked on stage. How amazing is the girl with the pink do? Almost makes me want to get my dye on! But seriously now…
By the end of the day, we were utterly pooped and headed back to the hotel for a well-deserved drink on the 34th floor. We ate at the hotel, we were so keen to get to bed and were up bright and early for a goodbye breakfast. Bidding farewell to Liv and Laetitia, I headed into town with Sarah from Olympus for a spot of sight-seeing and a coffee date with Sophia from Girl In Menswear. Now, as I currently can’t get those photos off my camera (switching memory cards from camera to camera possibly not the best idea!) I will bring you the next instalment in a few days time. Hope you enjoyed all the pics!
Ps. Just in case you wanted to listen to one of the coolest electronic tracks ever… !
