Imagine a beauty app where you could search photos of nail art, hairstyles, make-up for your perfect look and filter by salon, stylist or location… Sounds like a dream come true? Well, the newly launched BeautySpotter (app and online) is the brainchild of Gemma Bellman who, after a tough time finding the hair and make-up she wanted for her wedding, decided to make an app for that!
Multi-faceted, the app allows you to search for looks and styles by checking out the work of particular stylists and salons, as well as follow people (beauty consumers and artists/stylists) and upload your own beauty pics. No more “shopping blind” as Gemma puts it. Gemma, an ex-L’Oreal brand manager, feels that we, as beauty consumers, never know quite what we’ll end up with – so the idea is to provide a platform for people to “window shop for their look before they book”. (In case you’re after some gorgeous wedding inspo, the very beautiful Gemma has tried & tested a wedding dream team on the BeautySpotter blog.)
To experience the app firsthand, Gemma took me along to WAH nails in Topshop for some nail art. Not something I’ve ever delved into before but, browsing nail artist Ellie Harry’s work on her BeautySpotter profile, I spotted a set of flamingo & pineapple nails and decided on a full set of super cute pink flamingos. (Also, how amazing is Ellie’s hair? The perks of working right next to Bleach!)
Incredible, right? Ellie says no coffee is the key to steady hands…!
Super impressed by Ellie’s palette thumb ring!
The finished result – flamingo happy fingers!
I then uploaded a photo to my BeautySpotter profile and tagged Ellie and WAH Nails so others can see what I had done, where and by who – here’s a couple of screenshots of the app so you can get a feel for the homepage, but you can also see it all on your laptop too, visit beautyspotter.com. Do let me know if you get the app and what you think! You can also follow Beautyspotter on Twitter and Instagram.
A big thank you to Gemma of BeautySpotter for taking all these photos and for treating me to my first ever nail art – I am in love with my flamingos!
