A hotel room of your own when travelling solo is truly a fine thing and Hamburg’s East Hotel took my breath away…
From the curved wrought iron sink to 60s influenced bed in and decor in shades of chocolate, caramel and latte, it was easily one of the coolest rooms I’ve ever stayed in. And extremely spacious for a standard room with a row of separate cubicles for loo, shower and cupboard and safe. The time I spent there – after a busy day travelling, attending the Olympus PEN workshop and giving a blogger talk – was quite precious.
I had the most gorgeous night’s sleep after a delicious barbeque and nattering incessantly with Laetitia and what counts as a lie-in for me these days, lolling in bed reading the news for a blissful hour from eight to nine. Bittersweet to pack up and get ready to go, but breakfast with Laetitia turned into a mega-chat and then we popped out for a brief photowalk ending in a juice and fresh mint tea at a cute little cafe and one of my favourite duo selfies ever!
I’ve still got a load of Hamburg photos to show you, but the posts might be interspersed with an outfit from today taken during an afternoon out in Spitalfields – the market was home to an independent music label event. We made our way from there to the Bethnal Green animal farm and onto Hackney Hardware. Tonight we’ve got the last couple of episodes of Penny Dreadful lined up, totally worth watching if you haven’t yet – gothic horror with Eva Green at her gorgeously scary best!
Just a little early morning in-room magic trick… !
Could I just loll forever, please?

Oh, so tired… Goodnight, y’all.

So, I thought you would like to know that thanks to you I brought myself a little Olympus PEN for my birthday treat – its second hand but all I need to get off auto. I have been reading your blog for a while and because I live in Clapton I kinda feel like I am virtually stalking you. The hotel looks awesome but I reckon your next blogger talk should be on home turf – preferably in E5 as after my little birthday treat I am broke.
Hey Denise! Oh, amazing! Which model did you get? And what lens are you using? Fantastic that you’re a Clapton local! Actually gonna be doing a blogger talk and photowalk with Olympus & Jessops on 1 Aug just at Liverpool St. Come! Will be nice to meet 🙂 Let me find out details of it… 🙂 xx
Haha, I have also requested this model for my birthday! Do I need to buy extra lenses at first do you think?
Amazing, brilliant news! Ah, ok, I think it’ll come with a nice little zoom lens. So it depends what you like to shoot with – I’m totally obsessed with prime lenses (fixed ones that don’t zoom) – a really great one is the Olympus 17mm 1.8 as it’s great for shooting when you’re out and about as you get quite a lot into the picture, or if you’re more into doing portraits and details shots then the 45mm 1.8 is incredible… They’re not super cheap though, so kind of depends on what you like to shoot with… xx
