5 Things You Should Know About Uncivilised

IMG_1189

So excited to show you this gorgeous new denim & jersey basics brand Uncivilised – they had me at name, btw – by east London design team Lisa & Fran launching in the summer…

With seven years experience working together on womenswear & menswear, Lisa and Fran are a dynamic duo passionate about producing a line of clothing that works, really works, hard for busy, messy, stylish lives. Here’s what you need to know…

1. Inspiration for the brand comes from laidback LA denimistas and desert chic adapted for more urban London life. We’re talking the practicalities of tending to your succulents, kids and work while pulling off an easily-assembled perfecto look. But all with a sprinkling of cosmic dust – denim is embroidered with the crescent moon logo and pieces are named Aphrodite, Celeste, Eclipse and Seraph.

2. The pricing is refreshingly affordable. Starting at £28 for a tank top that drapes perfectly, cropped tops for £35, jeans at £75, knits from £65 and an awesome denim playsuit and plaid culottes for £75.

3. The clothes are made in a factory just outside Istanbul which the girls have been working with for years and have a good handle on transparency to ensure working conditions are up to scratch. They visit regularly – a few times a year – so have built up a great relationship with the team there.

4. The first collection has been designed to mix, match and layer. A nineties nod to bodies and cropped tops which are long enough to meet the waist on the collection’s jeans and layer under knits and the more oversized pieces. I couldn’t stop myself from matching up tops to cardigans and jeans – it’s the perfect readymade wardrobe!

5. The east London showroom is home to an incredible pair of deer antlers found by Lisa’s dad on a walk in Pepper Furzfield woods in West Sussex. An ideal match for her little cactus collection!

Keep an eye peeled for more of the denim styles – slouchy boyfriends, flares and perfect blue denim jacket, which I’ll be back to check out as soon as they’ve arrived with the girls!
