Earlier this spring, I popped along to check out the East London studio of jewellery & womenswear brand Nocturne. Statement necklaces, sports luxe separates and commitment to craftsmanship made for a brilliant photographic experience. Here’s what you need to know…
1 | Dream team
Since 2011, Nocturne has been made up of a fashion dream team with combined experience at Loewe, Chloe, Aquascutum, Lara Bohinc and Burberry and headed up by Catherine Howkins, previously at All Saints (where she was part of the original team that launched the brand globally) and Paul Smith.
2 | Oriental influences
Nocturne is owned by Affirm Heart Far East, a French family operated manufacturing company that produces for many luxury and contemporary brands including Paul Smith, Issa, Matthew Williamson, Mary Katrantzou and Whistles. Their passion for ancient craftsmanship and attention to detail brings Nocturne’s modern designs a sensual, nighttime twist featuring beautiful hand-worked beading and embroidery.
3 | Tangram
An endless source of inspiration for the brand and its designs – see the jewellery and t-shirt patterning in the pictures below – is taken from the ancient Chinese puzzle the Tangram. The Nocturne team even had floor tiles and jewellery display blocks made up based on the many ways you can slot the seven flat shapes together… which are many!
4 | Stocked where…?
Stocked in London by Harvey Nichols and Fenwick Bond Street, you can also find Nocturne at Shopbop, Grazia Shop and Luisa Via Roma and later this summer an exclusive capsule collection is to be launched on Anthropologie – more on that soon! (See rest of UK stockists here.)
5 | Wear with…?
Just one piece is enough to make an outfit work! The jewellery, separates and cocktail dresses are each a story in themselves. I styled up the grey Amie t-shirt (now on sale!) with just a pair of white jeans. Done and done!
Big thanks to Nocturne for having me along for the morning. All photos taken by me on Olympus Pen.
