My Favourite Natural Candles | A Mini Edit of Eight

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy candles obsession is hitting the high notes with a really fantastic collection of new and natural candles (ie. vegetable & soy wax, no toxins) from the UK and US. So as I have singularly failed to post much over this festive season I’d thought I pop up this mini edit introducing you to what I’ve got burning around the house at the moment…

1. EVERMORE LONDON

Newest in is this gorgeously cube shaped candle from east London based home fragrance company Evermore. 100% vegetable hand-poured wax using a combination of organic essential oils and phthalate-free fragrances and a cotton core wick. This Christmas-perfect orange & cinnamon scent is sold out, but check out the rest of the range, including other  fig & thyme and pine & cedarwood.

2. ESSENCE & ALCHEMY

I adore the flat wooden wick of Essence & Alchemy candles – this Campfire one from Trouva. Handmade in Sheffield by scientist Lesley with organic natural fragrances and raw materials and packaging are ethically and sustainably sourced through British manufacturers and suppliers.

3. OHROS CANDLES

Another east London brand – not biased I promise, ok maybe a little! – the Hackey based Ohros is new to the scene with a gorgeous smaller size candles for an extremely reasonable £12. The lovely Georgia, who is handpouring soy wax and using cotton wicks, came to visit the other day and we had such a laugh doing her top tips for my Instagram Stories! Trim the wick before lighting for the first time and burn for a 40-minute session the first time… You can also find her stocked in Hackney florist Grace & Thorn.

4. BIRCH & BROOK

This Dressing Room scent is such a dreamy, gorgeous one by Birch & Brook who I first discovered through natural and organic beauty site A Beautiful World. 100% natural wax made from GM free and certified vegan ingredients  from renewable and sustainable sources, the collection’s inspiration is taken from literary and historical influences.

5. CLARIBEL LONDON

With a lead free cotton wax and made from vegetable wax (responsible made in France), I love the Claribel London candles for their brilliant recharge which works perfectly as the candle burns so cleanly and brilliantly priced at £13.75.

6. BROOKLYN CANDLE STUDIO

Really quite deeply obsessed with these beautiful dark-coloured glass containers – they look beautiful as part of a collection. This gorgeous Fern & Moss fragrance is the Brooklyn Candle Studio which I discovered through gorgeous homewares site Wood/Grey. 100% soy wax from American grown soy beans and a lead-free cotton wick.

7. MALIN & GOETZ

Really impressed with everything I’ve tried from the family-run New York based apothecary Malin & Goetz. A blend of beeswax, soy and vegetable wax with no synthetic fragrances, the limited edition Sage scent has been perfect over this festive period, but I’m super keen to try the tobacco one! (ps. 3 samples + free UK shipping on orders over £50).

8. P.F. CANDLE CO

Really thrilled with this discovery while out Christmas shopping on Chatsworth Road last week. The P.F. Candle Co is another US based candle company, a husband and wife team from LA. Home-grown soy wax and cotton core wicks, you can find them in the UK at Urban Outfitters and in store at Hop of Hackney, E5.

Love this selection of candles, thanks for sharing! I just wondered how you came to find these brands? I find it hard to locate the smaller candle brands as the more well known companies seem to dominate the first 8 pages of google and you only have so much time in the day! Thanks again, Char

Haha yes! I feel the same, always the same candles come up again and again. Tbh I found a lot of them through Trouva.co.uk and then I’ve been contacted directly by a couple of brands which is lovely and then just ones I’ve stumbled across when shopping. xx
