With its dreamy beaches and year-round super climate, the Algarve can be overlooked for its fine dining. With 6 Michelin starred restaurants in the Algarve and the excellent Gusto headed up by 3-Michelin star chef Heinz Beck at the Conrad Algarve there is quite the opportunity for some serious foodie indulgence…
And indulge I did last month at the Conrad’s very first three day Gourmet Culinary Extravaganza presided over by 10 chefs (hosted by Heinz Beck) with a combined total of 19 Michelin stars. It was quite an eye-opener to the exquisite effort taken to produce dishes which are all about the tastes, textures and presentation. Not to mention how you found yourself weighing up how well one dish complemented the one before and after and the consideration taken by the sommeliers deciding which wine for which dish. Suffice to say I experienced some exquisite foods and wine amidst great compamy and the surrounds of the quite majestic Conrad Algarve. All part of the Conrad’s fantastic #stayinspired 1/3/5 experiences – via the Conrad Concierge app you can browse reccommendations for what to do in given time slots – now overseen by new Director of Inspiration Peter Jon Lindberg (I mean, what a job title!).
[ezcol_1half]A little famliar with the Algarve through familiy connections (you’ll probably have seen some of my previous trips, here, here and here) I was keen to get to the beach and dip my toes in the water and see the sunset. With brilliant German blogger Seyma a willing partner in crime we spent a glorious afternoon splashing around and soaking up rays at the Conrad beach.[/ezcol_1half] [ezcol_1half_end]When seven-course meals become the norm, there is much chat to be had and the group of international journalist attendees nattered non-stop so I think we all were all quite relieved for a little downtime in the spa – the first Conrad own spa with lots of lovely products by a brand I really love for its super relaxing bath oils, Aromatherapy Associates.[/ezcol_1half_end]
Did I mention the Sunday pasta party?
The Sunday pasta party was just delicious and I completely over-indulged in freshly-cut prosciutto and our last night saw an incredible party in the underground carpark with dancers and a brass band in and around our sit-down meal before we all fell upon tables piled high with the most incredible sweets!
