The 4 Shoe Styles I’ll Be Wearing This Spring

Suffice to say Spring is so very nearly here! A bit yo-yo – *nervous laughter wasn’t always this way was it global warming help* – but while we are due another week of cold & windy, I’d say we are pretty close…

Close enough indeed to be planning the wardrobe sitch. And there is a strong-willed clothes planner in me, despite my seemingly chaotic relaxed approach to life otherwise…

Anyway I love Spring for getting the toes out, wearing a lighter shoe and not having to cover every inch! I find warm weather dressing just suits my shape and mood so much better.

So for my focus shoe wise, here we go:

The Tennis Shoe

Jumper* by Sunspel | Jeans by HM (on sale!) | Kicks by Veja

A light, white tennis kick leaving lots of nice ankle exposed just can’t be beat for a cool Spring look. The white lifts up any outfit and they work brilliantly with trousers and skirts/dresses alike… By the way, these cute leopard print jeans are reduced to £8.99 right now!

I already have my Superga x Alexa Chungs waiting in the wings; they’re a lovely little shape and v cute with the eyelet hooks – they mainly sold out but there are some sizes here.

I pounced on the Veja Volley’s – not sure why these weren’t on my radar already but I’m deeply obsessed already, they go with everything and look so nice on the foot!

And a just a cool variant with their 70s cult status (designed in 1970, made famous by tennis star Bjorn Borg), the Nylite by sustainable Swedish brand Tretorn are also high on my list – the 2019 versions are made from recycled materials and are recyclable too, double win!

Here are some shopping links below! Net-a-Porter and Farfetch are quite low on stock but there are lots of sizes and a whole colour range on the Veja site itself – which is where I got mine!

The Super Flat Minimal Slide

Top* by Baukjen | Jeans* by Levi’s | Slides* by Saltwater Sandals

The Whistles blazer in the sale btw!

Obviously the YSL version has a lot to answer for in kicking off the super flat minimal sandal trend last summer – and they are beauties! While I occasionally give into a the designer version (haha, see below!) I really wasn’t feeling it on these ones. Of course, there were the Dune dupes which loads of people got (seem to be sold out but here are Zara ones! And these H&M ones are quite similar, though the sole is a little thicker) and various other high street pairs, but I didn’t really see a pair I liked. Although these Ancient Greek ones look quite lovely, and the ATP Atelier styles are always droolworthy…

However Saltwater Sandals dropped their new Retro Slider last month (gifted) and I was sold! Basically they’re so snug and stretchy they won’t slide off! Which was the main problem with this style of shoe for me – if you have to walk carefully to keep them on I just can’t deal!

The Saltwater ones fit tight, not uncomfortably so, but they are going to reliably stay on you feet. I got my normal size – bear in mind that my foot fans out quite wide so these are probably a bit snugger on me than you!

The Hiking Sandal

Ok so I’ve worn super comfy Tevas in summers past (even changing into a pair on the street on a super hot sweaty London summer’s day!) and I even bought a new pair of platform ones (these ones!) just recently in a bid to emulate the new rather pricey version on the block by Prada.

The Prada ones surfaced – the obvious follow on from designer hiking boots, both trend gold! – and damn they looked good. Usually I don’t go for designer AND LOGOED pieces – oh no! – preferring more subtle so-called affordable luxury pieces.

But these really did keep preying on my mind (beautifully styled on Instagram) and then a blogger pal said she’d just bought them and I just cracked. Albeit with the help of a sitewide discount if you bought through the app last week, gah!

You can still easily achieve the look with the Tevas – these midforms at Free People are pretty good & I’ll be wearing these too! And I think this will just have to be put down to my annual high designer indulgence; last year it was the Loewe hammock bag, which I bought through Vestiaire. Although I have to admit I don’t regret that at all, the bag is one of the best I have – looks fab, great to carry on the shoulder, can take loads inside, I regularly use for travelling or when I have photography job for all my kit!

Anyway, Tevas or Pradas, it’s a great look and I love it!

The Espadrille

These are kind of like skinny jeans for me – a wardrobe staple that I’ll  always wear while the other trends come and go. Actually I count The Tennis Shoe in this category too! They are so easy to slip on and off, kind to the feet and great on beaches. I love wearing them with jeans and shorts!

I absolutely love Manebis for their espadrille and last year updated my worn out old leo pair with these new leopard ones!
