You know that piece of jewellery you wear day in, day out and never take off? Well, this engraved necklace by Annina Vogel is that piece for me…

Part of her new Victorian Engravings Collection, I was lucky enough to meet the lovely Annina at the Liberty Christmas press day where she talked me through the one-of-a-kind collection while my very own necklace in a delicate rose gold was being hand-engraved with the Edith Wharton quote “If only we’d stop trying to be happy we’d have a pretty good time.” I couldn’t believe the precision of the engraver who managed to fit the quote on the little disc perfectly.

As well as the necklaces, the collection also includes a range of signet rings in both yellow and rose gold and Annina has chosen (quite a large!) selection of her favourite Victorian witty quotes from the likes of Queen Victoria, Oscar Wilde, Edgar Allen Poe and Charlotte Bronte, so you’re bound to find one that means something to you. Already a fan of Annina since buying a vintage chain ring for my wedding ring, her reworked vintage pieces are adored by everyone from Kate Moss, Cara D and Alexa Chung to a host of new US fans including Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker and the Fanning Sisters.

The collection is available in Liberty with a hand-engraver on site in the run-up to Christmas to personalise your piece of choice. The perfect, perfect gift, especially for Christmas! I haven’t taken my necklace off since the Liberty press day (except to photograph it today) and its delicate and subtle beauty means I can wear it with everything and use it as the perfect base for layering up more necklaces.
