Just before Christmas I popped down to Broadway Market and fell upon the most divine handmade underwear from Miss Crofton at one of the stalls. I couldn’t leave without a pair of gorgeous flowery knickers and I was delighted when founder Georgia Campbell agreed to an interview and a giveaway…! 

Georgia handmakes her whimsical and romantic designs in her east London studio, just by Broadway Market where you’ll find her stall every Saturday 9-5. Miss Crofton is also stocked on Devonshire Dolly and you can find out more on the Miss Crofton Facebook page.

Can you tell us a little about Miss Crofton and how you got started?
Miss Crofton started about 4-5 years ago on Crofton Road, Peckham – hence the name. A good friend and I decided to start a market stall, selling lots of little handmade bits. We had pillows, scarves, knickers, vintage, all sorts. It gradually developed its style over several years, until handmade lingerie became the main focus of what we do and the style became what it is today.

What is the aesthetic you aim for with your designs? And what inspires you?
I try to keep things girly and simple, I suppose. ‘What inspires you’ is such a hard question! Lots of things I can’t pin point exactly. Living in London exposes you to lots of exciting new styles and ideas. My taste favours classic styles, old movies and photographers such as Juergen Teller. I tend to go through phases of experimenting with new ideas without going too crazy. At the moment I’m using a lot of sparkly fabrics.

What is your most popular piece at the moment? 
The ‘Peppermint Perfection’ set is the most popular at the moment. It’s so girly, I love it!

What AW13 fashion and accessories can’t you live without at the moment?
I bought an amazing tartan poncho cape that I can’t walk out the house without. It’s a life saver.

What’s on your shopping list right now?
I would really love to treat myself to a Hopeless lingerie item. She is a complete genius-of-the-undergarment and I would die to own a piece.

Favourite place to hang out in east London?
I’m a big fan of the Mexican restaurant Mezcal on Kingsland Road. I have never tasted such a divine margarita!
